For the parents:
In the last few days we have been looking at the 'Acid Family' of salts; that is, the salts that belong with sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and so on, and then what happens when solutions of those different families meet each other. This is our introduction to Substitution Reactions. Today we looked at the Nitrate family which belong to Nitric Acid and we showed how they can really help substances to burn very well. We made a lot of white smoke (mostly steam) by burning sugar with the help of potassium nitrate.
Tomorrow we will look at the different metals in each salt and how to know which metal is there from the characteristic flame color each has.
